Welcoming John Stephens as CEO of GER³

Global Emergency Relief, Recovery & Reconstruction (GER³) is pleased to welcome John Stephens as our new Chief Executive Officer.

John brings more than two decades of leadership across emergency response, recovery, and development. His career has focused on bringing innovation into programs, growing and diversifying revenue, and scaling organizations.

He spent more than a decade at Mercy Corps, serving in senior leadership roles across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. During that time, John led multi-country programs, supported major humanitarian responses, and worked closely with partners, donors, and governments to increase impact in relief and delevopment programs.

More recently, John served as Chief Executive Officer of The BOMA Project, where he led a period of significant organizational growth. Under his leadership, BOMA expanded  across Africa, scaling programs that supported hundreds of thousands of women and children to escape from poverty to a new life of prosperity using the Graduation Approach.

John’s leadership approach is a mixture of collaboration and innovation, with a bias for action and learning. He is known for building strong teams, encouraging diverse perspectives, and finding creative ways to approach challenges.

“What stands out to me about GER³ is its commitment to working alongside communities as they recover and rebuild after crisis,” John said. “The organization’s focus on quick action, paired innovative solutions for the long term, aligns closely with how I approach humanitarian work. I’m excited to join the team and support the next phase of GER³’s impact.”

As CEO, John will work closely with GER³’s staff, board, partners, and supporters to strengthen impact, expand operations and deliver on GER³’s core mission to support crisis-affected communities around the world to build back better.

We are excited to welcome John to GER³ and look forward to the work ahead.
