COMMUNITY DEBRIS MANAGEMENT & HOME RECOVERY PROJECT - 2022

In response to the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck southwestern Haiti in August 2021, GER3 mobilized a rapid response team to conduct assessments and design programs to support the most vulnerable communities. This project, focused in the areas of Maniche and Les Cayes, was designed for community-led debris removal and home repairs. The two-month project included over 20 local team members and removed substantial amounts of debris from community spaces and homes belonging to vulnerable community members. Several homes were also supported with critical repairs.

RE-INITIATION OF TREE RECOVERY PROGRAM - 2018

GER3 reinitiated its Hurricane Matthew Sustainable Tree Recovery program in select communities of Dame Marie, Haiti in early 2018, thanks to a generous contribution from the MacFarlane Foundation. In just under two months the team has successfully cleared over 450 square meters of fallen trees and created 300 wooden planks from recovered wood. The program is estimated to have over 1,000 direct beneficiaries, including workers, landowners and affected community members.

SUSTAINABLE TREE RECOVERY PROJECT - 2017

In January of 2017, GER3 began the Haiti Tree Recovery Operation in order to help the people of Haiti continue to rebuild their lives in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. With the goal of empowering the local people, GER3 focused on recovering an overlooked, but important, resource: the fallen trees. Hurricane Matthew left 350,000 trees felled. These trees, if harvested before they rot, provide a great source of lumber, and must be cleared in order for farmers to be able to return to farming the land.
