GER3 has completed the rehabilitation of the Koziivka school bomb shelter! Swipe for before/after comparisons, features of the renovation, and repair photos!
For the first time since 2020 (COVID pandemic), Koziivka Kindergarten and Koziivka Secondary School will resume in-person learning, as all Ukrainian schools must have a functioning bomb shelter to restart in-person services.
The bomb shelter provides 298 children and 62 staff/faculty with safe and dignified shelter during Russian aerial bombing campaigns. Children from two surrounding villages will also be transported to the Koziivka schools to benefit from the shelter.
The comprehensive renovation included:
- General repairs (ceiling, walls, flooring)
- Installation of appropriate bathrooms
- Two emergency exits
- Water supply & sewage systems
- Heating and electrical
- Two-phase anti-radiation ventilation system
- Accessibility features (including a wheelchair-accessbile bathroom & entrance lift)
GER³’s initiative not only provides a safe space during air raids, but also restores their fundamental right to education. By enabling face-to-face learning, it helps rebuild a sense of community, routine, and emotional stability for children and families who have endured years of isolation and trauma.
We are extremely proud of our team and grateful for the support of Koziivka staff & faculty throughout the renovation and opening ceremony!
