Overview

In January 2025, devastating wildfires swept across Los Angeles, destroying thousands of homes and displacing communities across the region. GER³ deployed within days and has since established an ongoing program in Altadena focused on both recovery and future wildfire resilience. We’re helping residents return to safer, healthier homes through environmental testing, smoke remediation and targeted repairs, while reducing future risk through home hardening and defensible space. Working alongside residents, local organizations and technical partners, our aim is to address the impacts of the fires today while giving households practical ways to better protect their homes in the future.

General focus areas

Safe and healthy homes

We help residents address the less visible impacts wildfires can leave behind. Our teams support indoor environmental testing, smoke remediation, minor repairs and soil testing, helping households understand potential risks and take practical steps toward returning to safe, healthy homes.

Wildfire-resilient homes

We work with homeowners to reduce the risk of future wildfire damage through practical home-hardening measures and defensible space. Improvements can include ember-resistant vent protection, noncombustible materials and reducing combustible material immediately around the home.

Community preparedness

We work alongside residents and local organizations to build knowledge that extends beyond individual homes. Through training, wildfire-risk assessments and practical guidance, we help people understand the steps they can take to reduce risk and share those practices throughout their communities.
