Hurricane Melissa Response Team Deployed to Jamaica

GER3 is deploying a team to Jamaica in response to Hurricane Melissa, which is leaving catastrophic flooding and landslides in its wake as it passes through the Caribbean. Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica late Tuesday morning as a Category 5 hurricane, hitting the south and southwest of the country the hardest. Damaging winds, extensive flooding, and landslides have impacted homes and critical facilities, blocking roads and severely affecting communities throughout Jamaica.

The GER3 response team will determine community needs and provide immediate assistance to local communities in coordination with community leaders, national authorities, and other response organizations.

Although GER3 is now deploying to Jamaica, our team will also assess the humanitarian needs of other countries hit by Hurricane Melissa, including the Bahamas, where GER3 provided integrated relief, recovery and reconstruction for five years following hurricane Dorian.
