GER³ is deploying a response team to Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa, which has caused catastrophic flooding, landslides, and widespread damage as it moves through the Caribbean.
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28 as a Category 5 hurricane, with communities in the south and southwest of the country among the hardest hit. Destructive winds, extensive flooding, and landslides have damaged homes and critical infrastructure, blocked roads, and disrupted communities across the island.
The GER³ response team will work with community leaders, national authorities, and other humanitarian organizations to assess urgent needs and identify where support can have the greatest impact. The team will initially focus on understanding conditions on the ground and providing immediate assistance to affected communities.
While GER³ is deploying first to Jamaica, the team will also assess humanitarian needs in other countries affected by Hurricane Melissa, including The Bahamas.
GER³ has a long history of working in The Bahamas, where the organization delivered integrated relief, recovery, and reconstruction programs for five years following Hurricane Dorian.
GER³ will continue to share updates as assessments progress and response activities develop across the region.
