Bahamas Support Specialist - Remote

ORGANIZATION & OPERATION

Founded in 2017, Global Emergency Relief, Recovery & Reconstruction (GER3) in a non-profit that supports crisis-affected communities to build back better. GER3 clears the debris left by a disaster, provides temporary facilities and immediately starts the reconstruction process with a particular focus on affected homes, schools and health facilities. GER3 is committed to using sustainable, culturally appropriate and community-led interventions. GER3 works in partnership with a range of international and national entities.

Following the Category 5 Hurricane that struck the Bahamian Islands on September 1, 2019, GER3 was one of the first international teams on the ground. Beginning in Grand Bahama, GER3 led debris management and sustainable recovery programs focused on communities and schools. GER3’s teams, comprised primarily of local Bahamian personnel, implemented a variety of rehabilitation activities in seven schools and over 50 homes.  Now based in Abaco, GER3’s programs continue to focus on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of public schools as well as critical housing needs for vulnerable populations.

POSITION

The GER3 Program Support Specialist position is a GER3 headquarters position working as a part of the Bahamas Dorian operation.  The Program Support Specialist is designed particularly to support the Program Coordinator (also based from GER3 headquarters). The role involves assisting the Program Coordinator with financial management, reporting, human resources management, partnership management and other aspects of service delivery.

The Program Support Specialist will work, as tasked, on an hourly basis with the anticipation of working up to 3 full days each week. This position is to be filled initially for approximately 2 months (until mid-April) with extension likely throughout the duration of the GER3 Bahamas Dorian program (expected to be between 8 and 12 months).

The position will report to and work closely with the GER3 Program Coordinator based in Virginia, USA.

RESPONSIBILITIES and Duties

  • Manage the financial processes required to maintain a robust program financial management system.

  • Support the GER3 Bahamas Dorian budget management process.

  • Collect and analyze project data and information. Manage data and information into regular reports that meet GER3 reporting requirements to a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Prepare necessary reports, information and presentations needed for internal and external constituencies.

  • Interface with and respond to partner and donor requests on an as needed basis.

  • Support with a range of human resources related support functions.

  • Support with a wide range of administrative functions including equipment procurement and management. Ensure all administrative and service functions are working as effectively as possible.

  • Support GER3 external communications to include submissions and posting on the GER3 website and social media.

  • Facilitate GER3’s online presence with updates and photos as possible.

  • Support with measuring GER3 program performance against overall program objectives and targets.  Work with fellow team members to make necessary adjustments to improve program performance. 

  • Work in a solution-oriented manner to solve complex and demanding challenges.

  • Recommend adjustments and improvements to GER3 project procedures, policies, and standards.

  • Produce recommendations that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the program.

  • Contribute on a regular basis to generating new innovations and ideas to the benefit of the GER3 program team.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

SPECIFICS

  • This position will begin as soon as possible, in support of GER3 headquarters, for an initial period of two months. Ideally the person who fills this position would work from the Washington DC metro area or Winchester, Virginia however that is not a requirement.

  • With proven success, it is intended for the Program Support Specialist to continue through the full duration of the Bahamas Dorian program (8 – 12 months).  In the case where travel to the Bahamas is necessary, all reasonable expenses (shared housing, food, transport, communication) associated will be covered by GER3.

  • Compensation for this position will be discussed and negotiated based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. GER3 welcomes interested candidates to submit CV’s and cost proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ year(s) of relevant humanitarian, recovery or reconstruction experience.

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.

  • Proven ability to work with financial data and budgets.  

  • A demonstrated high level of personal responsibility and self-motivation.

  • Smart and strong organizational skills, detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks under tight time constraints.

  • Demonstrated professional aptitude that includes, but is not limited to, being responsible, disciplined, adaptable, accountable, client-focused and having a strong work ethic.

  •  “Can-Do”, positive attitude and ability to overcome significant challenges by using problem-solving techniques, open-mindedness and adaptability.

  • Strong team, problem-solving and inter-personal skills.

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
